Lazy J offers a diverse landscape to hunt waterfowl over large field spreads or cattle ponds and large watershed ponds.

Misc Waterfowl Hunt Information
- The waterfowl hunt daily rate is for one hunt location and one decoy spread (i.e. if clients want to duck hunt in the morning at one location and goose hunt in the afternoon at another location then that is considered two hunts and hunters will need to pay an additional $225 per person. If we hunt the same spread it is considered one hunt and no additional daily rate will be charged)
- Our waterfowl hunts will typically be morning hunts
- Morning hunts usually last until mid-morning (10:30-11 AM)
- Evening hunts can be available depending on bird activity, morning hunt success and hunter preference
- Evening hunts will be dependent on the guide’s sole discretion (we want you to hunt as long as you want, or until daily bag limits are reached)
- February goose hunts include one hunt per day. Generally a morning hunt, but can be variable based on bird patterns
- Guests are welcome to help set-up/tear down spreads and blinds but are not required to
- Guest must take their harvested game with them when they depart
- Guest are responsible for cleaning their harvested game for legal transport, our guides are happy to help with this
Where Do We Hunt?
Lazy J Outfitter boasts 15,000 acres to hunt on; very vast and beautiful waterfowl terrain that is 90% family-owned land. With private flooded marshes and flooded corn. Not leased, over-run land.
Our hunting grounds are based out of Lyndon, KS, within 20-30 miles of Melvern Lake, Pomona Lake and the Flint Hills National Wildlife Refuge
This area holds big numbers of waterfowl all season long!
Is There A Deposit?
A $250 per day/person non-refundable deposit will be required for booking.
What Should I Bring?
- Gun: 3 round max plugged shotgun (recommend 12 or 20 gauge)
- Ammo: Approximately one box of shells per hunt. 3 or 3.5 inch BB-#2 shot for geese and #2-#4 shot for ducks. Guide recommends #2 shot as a default for both.
Clothing: It is best to come prepared for a range of weather types. Our temperatures can range from 15 to 50 degrees. Bring layers that are added or removed as temperature changes to stay comfortable. Highly recommend outerwear to be 100% waterproof.
- Camo coat, hat, and warm layered clothing
- Warm, waterproof gloves
- Camo rain gear (we will hunt in all conditions, please come prepared)

What are the licensing requirements?
- State of Kansas hunting license (non-resident or resident)
- State of Kansas waterfowl stamp
- State of Kansas HIP stamp
- Federal waterfowl stamp
Are meals included?
- 3 meals are included unless otherwise noted
- Our lodge has a fully furnished kitchen and grill/smoker for client use
- Grocery stores and several restaurants are within a 5-15 minute drive
Are there any airports near by?
- Wichita Dwight D. Eisenhower National Airport: ICT – Wichita, KS (Our location is approximately 1 hour 35 minutes from the airport)
- Kansas City International Airport: KCI – Kansas City, MO (Our location is approximately 1.5 hours from the airport)
Is there a shooting range available?
We have a shooting range on site at the lodge for sighting in your rifles or muzzleloaders. Also have several different bow targets for sighting in your bows (crossbows and compound bow targets).
Do I have to tip my guide?
Tipping your guide is not required but it is typical to tip your guide 10-20%. Your guide will appreciate a tip and any feedback you have for them. It’s ultimately left up to the hunters when and if to tip their guide.
